Chiba-based sound designer Yosi Horikawa is a man of miniatures. Table tennis balls, kalimbas, shakers, and insects, all collide in his electronic concoctions, and it’s the small details that make his music so unique. As a formally trained sound designer and soundtrack artist, he shows a deft hand in combining field-recorded sounds into something musical, often resembling a shadowy version of hip hop or musique concrète. His releases on Eklektik Records, Rhythm Incursions, or London blogger Laurent Fintoni’s highly regarded ‘Nihon Kizuna’ compilation, demonstrate Horikawa’s knack for combining the everyday sounds of life into something alluding to the infinite expanses of eternity.
